It is our mission to perpetuate the life of our business. In doing so we will remain reputable stewards of the environment by helping to sustain the health of naturally functioning landscapes and the productive capacity of the environment. We will also work to provide unmatched value for our customers and support a workplace philosophy that values creativity, diversity, professionalism and quality.
Champoeg Nursery, Inc. grows a wide variety of herbaceous perennial, wetland and woody plants native to the Pacific and Inland Northwest regions of the United States. Our plants are available in a variety of bareroot and container sizes. All of the plants we grow are site-identified and indexed according to the ecoregion classification system. For those of you who are not familiar with this system, an ecoregion is an area with similar geologic, vegetative, climatic and other environmental characteristics. To see a listing of the plants we grow and our current availability lists please visit our PLANTS page.
Because we are committed to quality, all of our plants are subject to strict standards. For example, many of our plants receive mycorrhizal inoculation before leaving our nursery. The inoculation is made using a commercially available inoculum of the highest quality. The result is a selection of plants with increased nutrient uptake, reduced transplant shock and lowered drought stress and root disease.
The majority of our plants are propagated from seeds, cuttings and divisions that are selectively gathered from donor sites at or near our nursery as well as other natural areas we have visited throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana and California. All of our collection sites support a healthy, natural and diverse native plant community. At the time of collection, exceptional care is taken to ensure that the health of our donor sites is preserved and the genetic and ecological integrity of our plants is not compromised.
Champoeg Nursery, Inc. also offers a wide selection of seeds from herbaceous perennial, wetland and woody plants native to the Pacific and Inland Northwest regions of the United States. After collection, our seeds are dried, hand-cleaned and then stored in containers at proper temperatures to maintain their viability. Our seeds are sold in small packets (approximately 25 seeds per pack), by the ounce and by the pound.
